CULTURAL FOUNDATION CDM

International Center for Music, Tradition, and Heritage of the Crown of Aragon

The Cultural Foundation CdM, International Center for Music, Tradition, and Heritage of the Crown of Aragon, represents the enhancement of a musical heritage of notable importance to the musical history of the West, from Valencia, a city with constant historical and heritage relevance, of which it has proudly boasted throughout its history. In this sense, the proposals of the FCCdM have a very positive impact on society, with evident repercussions in the cultural and social spheres. Starting from a historical reality such as the existence, between the 12th and early 18th centuries, of a geopolitical, cultural, and social structure known as the Crown of Aragon, the FCCdM is proclaimed to protect, disseminate, recover, and enhance the musical and cultural heritage generated around the territories that made up that region and its internationalization.

The singularity and characteristics of culture in general—and music in particular—justify, in themselves, its existence. The FCCdM establishes, for the achievement of its objectives and purposes, a framework of action that also focuses on the axis of Flanders (Holland), Italy, the Mediterranean, the Crowns of Aragon, Navarra, and Castile, and southern France, in clear correspondence with its historical context, thus allowing a global and comprehensive vision that addresses, in addition to local peculiarities, the logical correspondences and synergies established between different living spaces, as well as communication and exchange between all cultures of the East and the West.

To achieve its objectives, the International Center for Music, Tradition, and Heritage of the Crown of Aragon develops various projects and programs related to research, dissemination, diffusion, training, and the production of proposals around music, heritage, and tradition. Among them, the trajectory of dissemination and search of Capella de Ministrers stands out; the MHA Festival – Music, History, and Art; the project to recover the instruments of the angel musicians of the Cathedral of Valencia; the Early Music Morella Course and Festival; or the restoration of El Cant de la Sibil·la at the Valencia Cathedral, among others. Likewise, the FCCdM aims to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda established by the UN.

The Foundation carries out social and cultural actions, highlighting its collaboration with the Àmbit Association, through the labor inclusion of its users in the festivals organized by the FCCdM, and the organization of educational exchanges between young people from developing countries. The FCCdM thus promotes local and community dissemination and internationalization of culture through research, education, and experimentation, with an evident R&D&I character, fostering links between the population, bringing culture closer, stimulating communication, with direct relationships between various festivals, educational or research centers, conservatories, and from a markedly interdisciplinary perspective.
