El Cortesano is a theatral and musical show that recreates the courtier landscape of an European city characterized by the valuable cultural and artistic and the bond of European principal cities during Renaissanse and humanistic influence of Flandes. Through a text elaborated based in XVI century literary references in the form of Madrigal comedy, the audience has the opportunity of feeling immersed in the essence of an intense artistic century where the diversity notion merged with the transantional European idea, displayed the urban world around the cosmopolitan city and development of the cultural exchange, which was ilustrated around the Renaissance court, being the prelude and postlude of the revolt of the Brotherhoods.
That’s a courtly comedy of etiquette and courtesy, adventures and duels, discreet pleasures and artistic parties, represented by a illustrious characters accompanied of music.
Many authors wanted to find opera precursors in Antique representations on greek tragedies, like Euripides or Soflocles, where some chorus and parliament were singed. But until the end of XVI century and the benniging of XVII, we can’t talk about opera. Had borned a new genre including a previous forerunners, intermezzos, renaissance pieces developed between the comedy acts. Another important were the madrigal comedy, which representing scenes and states of mind with music adaptated to the words espirit.
Thats how is created this show compiled of musical renaissance pieces with a dramatic use, in the opera style before the opera.
The story of this piece begins with a party, would be like the scenes narrated by Luys Milan in El Cortesano: “Lords, I want to invite you like I have been invited. Walk down to the garden that my singers wants to do the May celebration like it’s celebrated in Italia”. His book Libro de Motes de damas y caballeros intitulado El juego de Mandar, published in 1534, Valencia, and El Maestro, are the books which give the title to this espectacle.
