FCCdM awards scholarships to students from North Africa

In this new edition, the organizers of the Early Music Morella Course and Festival, in collaboration with the CdM Cultural Foundation, have awarded eight scholarships to foreign students from North African countries to participate in the 2024 edition.

The purpose of these scholarships is to provide opportunities for young people with outstanding academic potential in these countries, enabling them to access training of excellence specialising in ancient musical heritage. These grants fully cover the costs of tuition, transport, accommodation and food, with the aim of promoting and encouraging intercultural dialogue through the universal language of music and the rich musical heritage of the Middle Ages.

The selection process took place last March through auditions in the conservatories of Rabat, Fez, and Mostaganem, in which more than 40 students participated. From among all those interested, the students selected are:

Students from Morocco:

  1. Ayman Elbasri
  2. El Bied Dalal
  3. El Mahdi Ouaqouaqi
  4. Zoubida Sefrioui Moudine

Students from Algeria:

  1. Chaimae Bendahmane
  2. Sarah Benkrizi
  3. Abdelatif Bendahmane
  4. Abderahmane Belhabib

The objectives of this programme are to bring intercultural dialogue closer through music as a universal language and with a plural and profound perspective on the most interesting musical traditions and the common cultural heritage of the Middle Ages. The Mediterranean, cradle of cultures, is a geographical, historical and cultural space of a transdisciplinary nature, which promotes the acceptance of different identities through the richness and mutual influences of the shared musical legacy.
